Massage Therapy FAQ

Massage Therapy has been a healing art since ancient times. The oldest writings on massage were recorded in 3000 BC in the Chinese book Cong-Fu of the Toa-Tse which was translated into French in the 1700’s. In 2500 BC the Egyptians created Reflexology, in 1000 BC Homer wrote about massage, and in 776 BC athletes used massage during The Olympic Games. For centuries massage was developed around the world & in China in 1368-1644, Tui Na evolved into a highly systematic treatment modality we still use today. The basis for most Western massage, Swedish Massage, is attributed to Per Henrik Ling who formed the Royal Gymnastic Central Institute in Stockholm in 1813 but this style of massage was used for decades before Ling. At Sage we practice both Chinese, Thai, & "Western" style massage.
